When the Johns were growing up their favourite uncle was Count Condu. Technically he wasn't their uncle, he was rather like a really really distant old relative, as well as the first family member to join the Undead. The Count would always be away exploring the world, only returning to the family crypt in Naxos Isle once every decade for the occasional summer family reunion. One summer, Count Condu came back from a trip to Africa, bearing two special gifts for his beloved nephews. For werepanther John he brought a magnetic compass, so he could find his way home in the mornings following a full moon. For vampire John he brought an ancient Nigerian Nok figurine, to always remind him that when it comes to surviving as a vampire, intellect is more useful than instinct.
